Hajiki Sanada, the teenage hero of this drawn/CG mecha adventure, works as a delivery boy to help his family survive in the gritty slums of Night Town. When he handles a mysterious cube, it transforms into a Techode, a powerful robot that obeys only him. He soon discovers three other Techodes: one belongs to Princess Aiko, tough girl Takami pilots a third, and thuggish Katana uses the fourth. The Blade Runner-influenced backgrounds (complete with animated billboards) look better than the animation in front of them. The weightless, rubbery movements of the Techodes don’t convey the mass and power of multi-ton robots. It would be easier to forgive the limits of the animation if the story were more compelling, but the characters remain underdeveloped. Hajiki struggles to earn an honest buck on mean streets, but little distinguishes him from other anime heroes who unexpectedly become mecha jockeys. I wish I had a giant robot.
I like this anime alot. I like the fact that they ride on, not in the robots. I’m waiting on the next volume to arrive at my door step like a kid waiting for Santa. Hurry up!

  2. Well, what can I say…. This series deffinatly is not what I expected, however I still have to say that I am really enjoying it!! The stories follows a boy named Hajiki Sanada and his strugles to try to support his family after the passing of his father. Hajiki works as a delivery boy for a local delivery service in a town known simply as Night Town. When he is asked to make a special delivery to an unknown buyer, he stumbles upon a small stone known as a Gad, which is is mysteriously facinated by. Eventually his conection with the Gad increases as he witnesses the Gad evolve into a giant robot known as a Techode. Though the series starts off very slowly, it has alot of promise in terms of a clasic Mecha Story Line. I wouldn’ recomend this series to just anybody, however if you are a fan of mecha and do not think that Evangellian is the only good mecha out there (which it’s not), than you would probably enjoy this series, so check it out :)

  3. I also first saw this anime on G4TechTV and was intrigued and mesmerized within moments. This anime has so much to offer, even more than just action with giant robots.

The character development is second to none. As you get to understand each character’s ideas and beliefs you soon discover that they are fighting for their own personal reasons while sticking together to accomplish something greater that they don’t yet understand nor really know about. Each character has a unique background and it is told in such a rich manner that you come to not only understand each character’s actions and reasons behind them, but you also begin to feel as they do. With each ordeal each character overcomes, a new chapter is opened up and in the end you can see how the characters have changed and evolved from the beginning of the show…

The plot is great as well. These are not your typical giant robots as they are created in such a unique fashion and the whole story behind their creation is so well developed that you will want to watch it over and over again because you get that drawn into it all. With each new location comes a new challenge they must overcome, yet some fall and others blaze right through as if nothing where there. Each new location is wonderfully rendered and you will absolutely love the way each character interacts in each new surrounding as well as how each new area can apply a subtle change to a character’s personality.

Overall, this is a wonderful anime and you should not pass up the chance to see it. I personally am waiting for a boxed set to come around, but if you want to you can always rent it before you decide whether or not to purchase it all. In the end, the giant robots and action may be major factors in the anime, the character development and plot/story line are some of the major driving forces. You will not be disappointed if you get this anime and that is a promise…

    Lightning strikes out
I can only speculate that makers of anime can only go for so many TV shows before they have to bring in the big robots.

What A Waste Of Awesome Animation!!
The story was just a little slow through episode 1 but it did end with the Techo (robot) emerging and it was cool so I continued to watch. However the story just didnt move.

    MECHA BORN FROM CUBES
Hajiki Sanada’s world consists of a place called Night Town, a section of a larger city that has seen better days.

Best anime series (heck, but show) ever…
This great series has not gotten the greatest chance to become popular, but it deserves recognition despite the fact it is another storie about giant robots.
