The first Inu-Yasha theatrical feature plays like an extended episode of the popular television series. Kagome, Inu-Yasha, Shippo, Miroku, and Sango are pitted not against Naraku, but against the moth-demon Menomaru, who was awakened by a falling shard from the enchanted Shikon Jewel. Menomaru seeks to recapture the power of his father Hyoga, who was defeated by Inu-Yasha’s father when Hyoga came to Japan “from the continent” (i.e., during the Mongol invasion of 1274). Only the combined power of Kagome’s arrows and Inu-Yasha’s sword Tetsusaiga can defeat this mighty demon. Affections Touching Across Time is unusually handsome for a feature based on a broadcast series: When snow falls on Kagome’s 20th-century home, the designers evoke the prints of Kawase Hasui. Unfortunately, the images have been compressed to fit the TV format, and there’s no widescreen option. Still, it’s a must-have for Inu-Yasha fans. The answer to the most important question of all…
Ok, first things first. YES, it is an English dub -_^
Second, YES, there is a difference between the artwork in the series and in the movie, but it’s very slight.

pretty decent movie. if you have seen the series or any of the other movies this isn’t the best out of all of them in my opinion but still really good.

‘Affections Touching Across Time’ is a sweet addition to any fan’s Inu Yasha collection. Anybody who isn’t overly fond of the series’ pacing and style will find this essentially to be a really long episode, but fans will eat it up.

As far as the plot goes, it’s nothing radically different from any episode of the series: Inu Yasha’s father fought and defeated an extremely powerful foreign demon called Hyoga, sealing away his power with one of his fangs. Now Menomaru, Hyoga’s son, wants to unlock his father’s power for himself, and for that he needs the Tetsusaiga. This insanely powerful foe will test the group’s teamwork, and Inu Yasha and Kagome’s feelings for one another.

Since this is a full length motion picture (clocking in at over an hour and a half), its art and animation are brighter and smoother (most of the time) than the television series. As far as the English dubbing goes, it’s as good or better than the regular series, so if you’re a fan of it, you won’t be disappointed. (Though there was a line along the lines of ‘Witness my awesome power!’ from the big bad. Not sure how direct of a translation that was.)

Special features include original Japanese promos for the movie and a promo for the second movie (due for a DVD release here in December). There’s also a little featurette with clips and information from the TV series up until Inu Yasha masters the Backlash Wave, tying in the plot of the film and narrated by different characters from the series.

Overall, the film doesn’t really offer anything groundbreaking but fans of the series will like it. I was entertained throughout the whole thing (and I have a notoriously short attention span). Aside from the action, there’s also some choice comedic moments (Miroku trying to get Sango to jump into his arms is particularly priceless) and some more exploration of the Inu Yasha/Kagome relationship. An entertaining way to spend an hour and a half.

    Great Movie!!!!
This movie was cool from begining to end. It keeps you hooked all the way. The graphics, storyline, action and everything was perfect to start off the Inuyahsa movies with.

  7. This movie is great! Even though I’ve only seen it in Japanese with English subtitles as of yet, I loved it! (It’ll be just as good, if not better, in English). About the movie: first of all, neither it nor any of the other 2 movies currently released in Japan have to do with the tv episodes. The story is completely different. I’d say this movie takes place after at least the 54th episode though, after Inuyasha has already learned the Backlash Wave. In the movie, a demon from China called Matenmaru (another moth demon like Gatenmaru) tricks Inuyasha into using Tetsusaiga to break the seal on his “inheritance”–his family’s powers–making him invincible (he was already immortal before his ultimate powers were unleashed). Now, it is up to Inuyasha and company to defeat him! In addition to lots of action, there are also some touching moments between Inuyasha and Kagome in this movie. ;) Any fan of the tv show is sure to love this movie!!! (By the way, the second movie is great too–Inuyasha and Kagome KISS in it!! however, they only kiss once, and briefly, and this does not affect their relationship in the episodes at all.)

    loved it
if you love the show you will love this and see how much the music can effect you while you watch in in some sceens i loved it you have to see if you loved the show is all i can…

  12. Good grief. Okay, for one, don’t listen to all that garbage down there(metalwhatever29, etc…). They’re just extremely bored because they have no lives and short attention spans-they clearly strayed away from the main subject. Seriously, guys… We’re talking about THIS dvd, and reviewing IT. Not your monotonous subjective opinion on an entire anime series. You probably go to the InuYasha key-chains and bash on those too. Pathetic…

Anyway, for people who are interested in this dvd:
If you really enjoy Inuyasha, then you will like this movie. I’ll truthfully say, it’s not better than the 2nd or 3rd(the best one in my book!)movie, but it IS the very first Inuyasha movie and that makes it special in it’s own way. For those of you who love to see them, there are a few classic Inuyasha and Kagome moments in this movie you don’t want to miss. Actually, this is the first thing I ever watched of Inuyasha when they showed it on cartoon network, and I was totally absorbed. So if your a fan or a newcomer, I would definitely suggest to add this to your Inuyasha collection.
