Soldiers of Sorrow (1981) is the second of the three features that launched the landmark Gundam franchise: about two-thirds of the film is footage from episodes 16 to 30 of the TV series Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) intercut with new animation. Because so much material had to be condensed into two and a half hours, Amuro’s relationships with Lt. Matilda and Ms. Hamon end before they really begin. Amuro wrestles with his new identity as a soldier and the fact that he is a “NewType,” a human with psychic abilities that may represent an evolutionary jump. His problems are played out against the ongoing war between the Earth Federation and the space-based Principality of Zeon. Although Earth commands vastly superior resources, Zeon commander Char Aznable seems to have an unending supply of ships and mobile suits for attacks on Amuro’s ship, the White Base. Rated 13 Up: Minor profanity, violence. –Charles Solomon

  2. This is the second installment to the first Gundam trilogy. The movie is edited version of a TV show that is 20 years old, but the depth of the story and the characters far exceeds some of anime or even sci-fi movies today. This is the anime that changed the history of anime. This is the must see not only for anime fans, but those who thinks anime is for kids.

  3. I’ve always loved the original Gundam series. And I think they’re better then all the other gundams like gundam wing, 0080, f-91, etc.

This is a must see video for all of you who want to relive the past and bring back some old gundam memories. Or for those who don’t know what a gundam is or for those who want to know how they first originated.

When I saw Gundam one, frankly I was a bit disapointed. Though I love Gundma and the “manga” was great, the old animation was…
